Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Activated Charcoal? How does it work?
Activated Charcoal can be made from a variety of sources; Bamboo, Wood, Coal, Coconut. Unlike regular charcoal, (Think your BBQ Grill) which is a known carcinogen. Coconut Activated Charcoal is medicinal and a potent natural treatment. It is the byproduct of slowly burnt coconut shells, that are then treated with oxygen. This "activation" process makes it highly porous, allowing it to adsorb (to bind to) as opposed to absorb, odors/toxins from gases or liquids up to 1000 times its weight. The extremely porous surface of just a small amount of activated charcoal holds a strong negative charge, that attracts the positively charged toxins and poisons to help bind to and pull them out of your body. True Activated Charcoal is odorless, tasteless and nontoxic.
What are the benefits of Activated Coconut Charcoal?
- Whitens Teeth: Removes Surface Stains (coffee, tea, red wine etc.) from teeth. Removes Plaque
- Cleanses Skin: Throughout the day, toxins from the world around us clog our pores. When your pores aren't clear, neither is your complexion. When used in a face mask, the Activated Charcoal binds to and helps pull the dirt out of your pores, making them less visible (it's the oil and dirt that makes them appear bigger). It also has anti-aging benefits and can help clear acne.

Does Charcoal Stain Your Gums?
We have not encountered anyone complaining about charcoal staining their gums. If you find the charcoal getting stuck in your gum line, you will want to make sure you rinse really well after brushing and rinse your toothbrush with water after brushing and brush again with just water to dislodge any charcoal stuck in your tooth/gum line. If you have loose or receding gums it is easier for the charcoal to stick in your gums, so we recommend using the tooth + gum oil to help heal and tighten your gums.
